Historical Event on 11/29/1996
The Indian Journal of Medical Research brought out special issues, as part of the 85th year celebrations of ICMR, on Nutrition Research (November 1995) and Diarrhoeal Diseases (July, 1996). The ICMR Bulletin also brought out special issues on such topics as Nutrition, Tuberculosis, AIDS, Tribal Health, etc. so as to coincide with the theme selected for a particular month as part of the celebrations. As part of the global theme initiative coordinated by JAMA, USA, the January 1996 issue of the ICMR was devoted to 'Emerging and Re-emerging Infections'.

3/1/1961	The first AN-12B arrived in India. This was added in the force because of the increasing frequency of clashes with Chinese forces on the Sino-lndian Himalayan border and the need that these revealed for yet further increase in airlift capability, together with a requirement for medium helicopters suitable for high-altitude operation, orders were placed in the Soviet Union for eight Antonov An- 12B and 24IL-yushin 11- 14 transport aircraft plus 10 Mi-4 helicopters.

8/4/1928	Udham Singh, Indian field hockey player (Olympic-gold-1952, 56, 64), was born.

8/18/1993	The Transport Development Council decides to abolish Pathkar (entry tax) and increase the fee for national permit from Rs. 1500 to Rs. 5000.
10/10/1990	Marxist extremists set fire to a crowded train in Andhra Pradesh killing more than 60.
7/14/1997	Eleventh Presidential election with K.R.Narayanan and T.N. Seshan as candidates; 732 out of 775 MPs and 3893 out of 4058 MLAs cast their ballots.
