9/9/1812	The first paper currency was issued by the Bank of Bengal. The notes of this bank were later printed by Perkins, Heath & Co. in England. They can be distinguished into at least 10 different types. They were issued in a wide range of denominations from Rs. 10 to Rs. 1000.
8/15/1854	The first train of the East Indian Railways steamed out of Howrah station destined for Hoogly, which was at a distance of 24 miles. It was the first passenger train catering to public traffic. Officially, it was inaugurated in 1855.
4/29/1924	Purushottam Ramchandra Behr, famous writer and Editor of Marathi literature, was born.
1/20/1948	1. Bomb exploded near Birla House during a prayer meeting of Gandhi. 2. Three member UN Commission for investigation/mediation on Kashmir. 3. K.M. Cariappa succeeded Lieutenant General D. Rissell as the Army Commander, Delhi and East Punjab and was responsible for conducting the operation in Kashmir.
1/12/1924	Gandhiji was operated on for appendicitis in Sassoon Hospital, Pune.
2/24/1924	Mahatma Gandhi released from jail.
3/17/1982	President's rule in Kerala.
3/1/1909	First Indian Iron Company 'Tata Iron and Steel' established.
7/22/1925	Govind Talwalkar, famous journalist and editor, was born.
