8/11/1908Khudiram Bose was hanged on this day in Central Jail at Mujaffarpur, Bihar at the age of 19 years. He along with Prafulla Chaki had planned to bomb the carriage supposed to be carrying Kingsford, unfortunately he was betrayed and was caught and finally was sentenced to death and hanged. This day is observed as ""Martyr's Day"" in memory of the great freedom fighter. Even today the soul stirring songs composed in his honour are sung by Bengali folk-singers.
7/7/1896The premier show of the 'Marvel of the Century', first cinema show India, arranged by the Representatives of French Lumiere brothers- Louis and August Lumiere, was held at Watson Hotel in Bombay. The regular shows, however, started from July 14, 1896 at the Novelty Theatre. This show advertisment appeared in the 'Times of India', carrying details of a film show to be held for the first time on Indian soil.

10/26/1947After the tribal column, raping and looting along the way by Pakistani Army continued at Baramulla, 50 kilometres from Srinagar. Maharaja of Jammu & Kashmir Hari Singhji, then, signed the instrument of accession with India and the Indian Armed Forces reacted to the Pakistani Army's infiltration. Great acts of personal gallantry and collective bravery were shown in the Kashmir operations. Major Som Nath Sharma was awarded the PVC, India's highest decoration for valour, and Brigadier Usman, commanding the 50th Parachute Brigade, was awarded the MVC. Both the soldiers were awarded posthumously.
