Historical Event on 11/1/1956
Indian Government re-organizes the states according to linguistic principles and inaugurates second Five-Year Plan. The states declared were Madhya Pradesh, Punjab by merging Patiala & PEPSU, Mumbai was divided in Gujarat, Maharashtra and Karnataka. Union Territories namely Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshdeep Minikai and Amin Divi were approved.

12/27/1998	Churches and missionary schools come under attack and many were injured in a fresh outbreak of communal violence in Surat and Dangs district of Gujarat even as the Bajrang Dal and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad announce the stepping up of their stir against the alleged conversion of Hindus.
5/1/1998	India and Peru sign agreements on space technology and agriculture during the visit of Indian President K. R. Narayanan there.
