New Delhi, April 9 (IANS) Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Chief Sadatullah Hussaini said on Thursday that the organization has written to Union Home Minister about alleged police action against several of its activists providing relief to the needy during the lockdown.

The letter signed by 26 people said during the lockdown, there has been a series of detentions and arrests of social activists and student leaders carried out by Delhi Police.

The letter alleged that the police action appears to be directed against those involved in the peaceful anti-CAA-NRC movement.

"We have observed that highly respected social activists are being implicated in false cases related to the North East Delhi riots of 2020," said the letter.

These activists are being asked to come to the police stations for interrogation during the lockdown. "At this time, when the courts are partially working and communication is limited due to the lockdown, these steps amount to unnecessary harassment by the Delhi Police," the letter said.

"The police action is causing immense anxiety and difficulty to the law-abiding citizens who are currently engaged in social work and helping the poor and needy," said the letter.
